The generator was not stolen!
It was abandoned on President Street for over a week right next to a fire hydrant. It had no identifying marks of ownership.
After being abandoned on public property, blocking access to a fire hydrant, the sanitation department tagged it for removal. Once tagged for removal (and possibly beforehand), property abandoned in the public domain is Hefker. Taking it isn’t stealing. Whoever parked it there in the first place is 100% to blame, and is actually abusing public property.
The fact that people do good things such as Chaverim and Shmira, doesn’t justify abuse of public property and appropriation of public parking spaces.
There’s almost no truth in this story.
As noted above, it was ABANDONED PROPERTY on a public road.
Residents weren’t shocked that it was taken. Residents were happy that it was finally removed from where it was dumped.
There was no praise for police action, rather condemnation of a baseless false arrest!
