A suspect is in police custody after attempting to assault multiple Jewish people Shabbos afternoon.

The incident initially occurred near Empire Blvd and Albany Ave at approximately 2:30 PM when the perpetrator, described as an emotionally disturbed male was attempting to gain entry into a vehicle waiting at a red light. He then vandalized the windshield wipers of a nearby Jewish owned parked car.

Then, without any warning, the perpetrator charged towards 2 Bochurim and attempted to punch both of them in the face, while yelling anti-semitic slurs.

The disturbing incident was observed by a Shmira member nearby, but the Bochurim refused to cooperate and left the location.

As the perpetrator approached Montgomery St, he once again charged at another Jewish man and attempted to punch him in the face, spat at him while yelling “dirty Jew” and other slurs of hate.

The perpetrator then picked up a rock and a stick and began to threaten other Jewish people in the area, including parents with small children and arriving Shmira members.

He was followed roughly 4 blocks until the police arrived and placed him in their custody.

The perpetrator was transported to the psyche ward for evaluation while criminal charges were not filed.

It is extremely important to cooperate with the police if you are a victim, Chas Vsholom. Not filling a report means it’s as if the incident never occurred. If the suspect gets away with it, there will be another victim. Do what’s right and make sure no-one else will get hurt.

Always be aware of your surroundings. In case of any emergency, call Shmira 24/7 at 718-221-0303 and 911.
