The Rebbe writes a letter to someone in the year 5718, that the reason for the lack of parnassah, is not so much due to the economic situation in the country, rather because of not being careful about the sheitel for women • Letter
Free translation:
What you write about your [hardship with] Parnasah (livelihood) and also those of others, I can’t hide my opinion, being that it is of relevance to others and on a matter of such importance: my opinion is, that a primary reason for the lack of success until now, is not so much the natural reason – that of current economic difficulties in the country, because there are many who overcame these difficulties, but rather the issue of sheitels of the wives of Anash,
and even though the Limud Z’chus on them (which is more then a Limud Z’chus – for it is true) is that they got used to it from how they would act in our country [Russia] where it [Sheitlen] came with great hardship, and became a matter of habit which made it seem permissible Ch”V for them, however, it is known that a limud z’chus is a great thing – but doesn’t change the situation – that at the end of the day the situation with Sheitlen is entirely problematic and troubling.
May it be that my words should be accepted just as they are [intended], not as words of severity Ch”v or reproof, but rather with hope that perhaps finally Anash will do what they are able, to add in their success with regard to Health, Parnasa, and true Nachas from all their offsprings sheyichyu, in a manner of joy glad-heartedness, and may it be the will [of Hashem] that he will find fitting words to accomplish all this in actuality, the earlier the better.
