Tefillin Stolen from 770 Recovered with Help of AirTag and Shomrim
A shocking theft took place this week at 770 Eastern Parkway, Beis Chayeinu, when a man—believed not to be Jewish—was caught on surveillance footage disguised as a Chassidic Jew • Full Story, Photos
The suspect, described as an African-American male, entered the building dressed in traditional Chassidic attire, including a hat and tzitzis. He proceeded to steal a Tallis bag containing a Talis and two expensive pairs of Tefillin from shelf inside the building. The value of the stolen Judaica was estimated at approximately $7,000.
Thanks to the foresight of the owner, one of the Tefillin sets had been fitted with an Apple AirTag tracker. After the theft was discovered, a joint effort between community members and Manhattan Shomrim quickly tracked the location of the missing items to Manhattan. The stolen tefillin and tallis were recovered and returned to their rightful owner.
Community leaders are urging Bochurim and visitors to be mindful of their belongings and to consider taking additional precautions to prevent future incidents.
