Following the events over the past weeks in 770, Tuesday morning the Gabbaim and the Hanhala of the Central Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim in 770 began action to take action to create a Seder in Beis Chayeinu and to stop the events that are not suitable for a helige place.
In accordance with the letter from the Badatz, who wrote, “We call again on all the Memunim, both on behalf of the building’s management, and on behalf of the Shul’s management, and on behalf of the Yeshiva’s management, to clean up by all possible means (according to Shulchan Aruch and Lehavdil the laws of the state) to completely eradicate such a phenomenon, and to restore the glory of the Shul, Beis Rabeinu Sheb’bovel.”
In a practically unusual move, the Gabbaim decided to turn off most of the lights in the Large Zal during the day. Sending a message to the Hanahla that if they can’t create a seder, they cannot learn in 770 (as it was before Gimmel Tammuz, that the Kevutza leaned in the Chovevei Torah building until then). While also sending a message to the Temimim that if they don’t follow the rules of the Hanhala and the Gabbaim they don’t have a place in Beis Chayeinu.
Indeed, at least the Hanahal’s message was well received. In the afternoon, an announcement on behalf of the Hanhala was sent to the talmidim, stating “All talmidim of the yeshiva must sign that they will not interfere in all matters of the Shul and will obey the Gabbaim. The signing is for everyone without exception.” At 5:00 pm, the Hanhala office was opened and hundreds of Temimim signed the pledge.
Now, we have to wait and see if all the talmidim will sign the pledge, and how the Hanhala will exercise its vigilance against those who disobey the Rabbonim and Gabbaim.
