770: Attempted Stabbing with Umbrella Handle — Why Was He Let Go?

Tensions flared late last night at Chabad-Lubavitch headquarters, 770 Eastern Parkway, after an attempted stabbing at the entrance to the main Zal was narrowly thwarted • Full Report

According to eyewitnesses, an African-American man attempted to force his way into the central zal of 770. A yeshiva student stationed at the entrance blocked his entry, prompting the suspect to lash out. In a sudden act of aggression, the man pulled out the handle of an umbrella and attempted to stab the student.

A police officer who was nearby immediately drew his weapon and intervened, successfully distancing the attacker from the premises. However, to the dismay of many onlookers, the suspect was not arrested and was allowed to leave the scene.

The incident has since caused considerable concern among the community, particularly due to what many are calling a dangerously lenient response from law enforcement.

“This was a direct attack on a Jewish institution, and the fact that the assailant walked away without being detained is both shocking and unacceptable,” said one community member.

No injuries were reported, and the student involved is said to be in good condition. Community leaders are calling for a full investigation and increased security measures around 770 to ensure the safety of its visitors and residents.
