I’m proud of both writers Rabbi Gershon Avtzon and Rabbi Yaacov Berman for being brave to engage in an important and needed discussion of Gimmel Tamuz that brings very strong emotions and spiritual energy to any Chossid that the Rebbe is near and dear to their Heart.
As a Chossid the only question we have is what the Rebbe’s perspective of Gimmel Tammuz is.
As such I would like to focus on a Sicha from the Rebbe of 20 Cheshvan 5746, that was later certified and edited by the Rebbe (and Printed in Likkutei Sichos Volume 27 Page 24 etc.).
The Rebbe brings the Famous statement of the Rebbe Rashab that he said several hours before he passed away “I am going to Heaven and the writings I leave with you”
וכפי שאמר כ”ק אדמו”ר (מהורש”ב) נ”ע קודם הסתלקות: “איך גיי אין הימל, און די כתבים לאָז איך אייך דאָ” (הנני עולה השמימה, ואת הכתבים הנני משאיר לכם כאן), והיינו, שכיון שאת ה”כתבים” השאיר כאן בעוה”ז (כשם שהארון נגנז בביהמ”ק, ולא במקום אחר), לוקחים כאן את עצמותו כפי שנמצא בשמים!
I would like to Focus on 2 points of the Sicha:
- Through the Writings you have The Rebbe. And you have the way The Rebbe is in Heaven. By Learning the Torah of the Tzadik you connect with the Tzadik himself.
- The expression is לאז איך אייך I’m Leaving it with you, The Rebbe explains the definition that you need to take it. Meaning you need to Learn it.
What the Rebbe is teaching us is that A) We have the ability to have the Rebbe himself. B) We need to put the effort in by Learning the Rebbes Torah.
B”H the Rebbe has given us the Opportunity to have the Rebbe himself, we just need to learn the Rebbes Torah.

The more recent Sichos which we heard from the Rebbe to date are all nothing about histalkus or the Rebbe leaving us, rather that we should open our eyes and see the Moshiach as he is already!! “One points with his finger and exclaims, ‘Behold! Here he is! Here is our righteous Moshiach! In the past tense – that he already came!'” And in other famous Sichos also from more recent years, the Rebbe says even further, that in our generation there won’t be any histalkus like in the previous generations, as it says in the Sicha:
מזה מובן החידוש דדורנו – הדור התשיעי – לגבי כל הדורות שלפני זה, עד לדור שלפנ”ז (דור השמיני): מכיון שהגאולה לא באה אז בפועל, ה”בא אל פרעה” (הגילוי ד”אתפריעו כל נהורין” למטה) לא הי’ בתכלית השלימות כנשמה בגוף בריא (היתה הסתלקות הנשמה מן הגוף, וגם הנשמה בגוף היתה במצב ש”הדיבור הוא בגלות” וכו’); משא”כ בדורנו זה – הדור האחרון לגלות ודור ראשון לגאולה – נעשה תומ”י “נתלו המאורות”, שלא זו בלבד שלא חסר ח”ו במאורות הגדולים דגילוי תושב”כ ותושבע”פ118, אלא אדרבה – נוספת שלימות נעלית יותר [לא באופן ד”כבד פה מאורייתא שבע”פ וכבד לשון מאורייתא שבכתב”, להיותו למעלה מזה], באופן שכנשמות בגופים מקבלים בפנימיות “אתפריעו כל נהורין” ש”נתלו” עתה, עי”ז שמשיח צדקנו בא מיד, “שלח נא ביד תשלח” וילמד תורה את כל העם כולו, עד “תורה חדשה מאתי תצא”120.
As we see from here and there are many many more Sichos where the Rebbe says the same thing, just in different ways, and we shouldn’t – as Rabbi Avtzon wrote – ignore these Sichos and just “try to figure out how to tell our children Gimmel Tammuz” it didn’t happen if the Rebbe says it won’t happen!!!!! Did the Levaya of Moshe Rabbeinu which ALL JEWS SAW AND THOUGHT THAT ITS REAL happen????? Why are we even giving it a thought? I’m surprised Rabbi Avtzon even wrote a whole long op-ed (which he contradicts himself many times) on this topic! The Rebbe said that our Shlichus is to Greet Moshiach, Moshiach is already here, he’s on the doorstep, we just have to open our eyes! Why are looking back at Galus and trying to explain with our Galus’dike mindset – as the Rebbe says it – things which we saw with our minds of flesh!!! As the Rebbe said in the Yuds that we should learn the most recent Sichos of the Frierdike Rebbe. Maybe start learning these Sichos which perfectly fit with these days, and you’ll see how all your doudts and questions have fallen apart instantly.
May we have the HISGALUS of the Rebbe Melech Hamoshiach Shlita when the whole world will know the truth and pronounce the proclamation which was encouraged by the Rebbe too many times: יחי אדוננו מורנו ורבנו מלך המשיח לעולם ועד!!!!!!!!!!!!!
