    According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), wholesale egg prices averaged $4.62 per dozen in December 2024, with regional variations such as $8.04 in California and $6.25 in New York. Transportation costs, local demand, and market competition have contributed to these differences.

    While prices are expected to decline eventually, they are unlikely to return to pre-outbreak levels in the near future. The USDA projects New York wholesale prices will drop to $2.35 per dozen by late 2025, down from current highs. However, experts warn that further outbreaks or disruptions could lead to renewed price hikes.

    This marks the second major spike in egg prices since 2022.
