“The video intertwines devotion to Hashem with the worlds of art and music—three realms deeply connected in my life. My dream was to merge them into a single experience,” Sofer shared with Chabad Info.
R’ Zalman first heard the melody Kol Atzmosai from his grandmother, Rebbetzin Chana Elke OBM. During the dark days of communist persecution, when the KGB hunted his father for secretly teaching Torah, his grandmother would shield and comfort the children. With tears in her eyes, she would sing this song with them, as they understood that the Jewish people were the “poor and destitute” while the communists were the “stronger oppressors” who had “robbed” them. Through this haunting melody, they poured out their prayers to Hashem for salvation.
The music video, filmed in Kfar Chabad, follows Sofer as he encounters a chassid draped in a tallis, immersed in the soulful Kol Atzmosai melody. Moved by the moment, Sofer begins painting the scene, capturing the spiritual depth of prayer and song. As he completes his artwork, an elderly chassid approaches, offering words of admiration and blessing. When the camera returns to the painting, the bench where the chassid had sat is now empty—revealing that the entire encounter had been a vision, a fleeting inspiration within the artist’s imagination.
