Over the weekend, Chabad of Springfield, IL, directed by Rabbi Mendy Turen, hosted a ‘Moved-In’ Event celebrating moving into their new building.

The weekend started with an opening event with guest speaker Doron Kornbluth, from Israel on the subject of ‘Cycle of Life’.

On Friday night, a community Shabbos dinner was held with the first Minyan in the new building. And on Shabbos day there was Shachris followed by a Kiddush.

This is a new chapter for Chabad of Springfield, in 2020 they moved into a storefront in the Town and Country shopping center. Three years later they are moving into a newly purchased two story building.

“This is part of our tremendous revolution in Springfield,” Rabbi Turen told Chabadinfo. “And Baruch Hashem, we were able to raise the entire amount of up to one and a half million dollars.

“The plan for the building is to have a Jewish center where Judaism is alive. It’s going to be a little bit of a different setup than a traditional shul as we know it. Chabad is famous for not being a traditional shul.” He added.

The first floor of the new building when renovations are complete will include a Shul and other amenities highlighting Springfield’s Jewish heritage. Some ideas being contemplated are to have a museum highlighting Jewish culture and a kosher market. The upper two stories will be office space that the center will lease out. A current tenant is the Springfield Jewish Federation, which Rabbi Turen said he hopes continues to rent.
