In light of the recent strikes on Iran and renewed hopes of dismantling its nuclear program, we revisit the remarkable—and little-known—spiritual events that preceded Operation Opera. This daring Israeli Air Force mission destroyed Iraq’s nuclear reactor on the eve of Shavuot 5741 (1981).
Just weeks before the historic airstrike, on Shabbos Parshas Bechukosai, the Rebbe delivered a passionate address about the global instability of the time. He warned of the catastrophic potential of a single unchecked leader wielding nuclear power—a threat that could bring devastation to the entire world.
As a spiritual countermeasure, the Rebbe called for a bold and unifying act: writing a Torah scroll composed of letters purchased by Jewish children worldwide. He declared that this unity through Torah would bring protection and lasting peace.
This inspiring video explores the Rebbe’s urgent message, the worldwide response it ignited, and the extraordinary chain of events that culminated in the successful elimination of a major nuclear threat.
