The Children and Families Who Are Not Forgotten
Over 1,400 Jewish families with children, facing economic hardship and distress, received life-saving assistance this past summer from the For Life organization, which operates under the Federation of Jewish Communities (FJC) in 26 major cities and 48 towns across Russia and Belarus. An additional round of aid is set to be distributed in the coming days in preparation for Rosh Hashanah and the High Holidays • Full Story, Photos
In these turbulent times, as the world faces upheavals and challenges that draw global attention to urgent issues, FJC’s For Life project is doing everything possible to ensure that Jewish families in Russia and Belarus, who cannot survive without support, are not forgotten. Throughout the year, the organization provides food vouchers that help sustain these families.
According to pre-determined criteria, the recipient families receive food vouchers that allow them to purchase kosher and essential products at leading food chains near their homes. Through a special mechanism, the items purchased are monitored to ensure they do not include non-essential or harmful products.
In many communities, the distribution of these vouchers is accompanied by festive gatherings where the children enjoy a few hours of joy and educational entertainment, which are crucial for their mental development and their families’ sense of belonging to the Jewish community and heritage.
