Tefillin Purchased from Recycled Bottles – and Gifted to a Soldier

There was great excitement this past Friday when an IDF soldier received a pair of mehudar tefillin – entirely purchased through a bottle recycling initiative led by students of the Kfar Chabad elementary school, under the direction of Mrs. Bruria Holtzman.

Over the course of six months, the girls collected empty bottles and redeemed them for their deposit value. Shekel by shekel, the amount added up, and they used the proceeds to buy a high-quality pair of tefillin for a soldier – all done with a deep sense of mission and personal responsibility, guided by proper educational direction.

Toward the conclusion of the project, Eliyahu Gutman paid a special visit to the school. During his visit, he spoke with the students in an organized assembly, and shared with them the great merit of their initiative.

At the end of the event, the set of tefillin was handed to Rabbi Eliyahu Gutman by principal Mrs. Holtzman, to be delivered to the soldier.

Later, out in the field, the tefillin were formally presented to the soldier by the Ezra LeChayal team – Rabbi Yehuda Lhiani and Rabbi Itzik Beck, accompanied by devoted volunteer Rabbi Moti Chazan.
