On Sunday, President-elect Javier Milei, was elected as the new president of Argentina, winning 55.69 % of the vote. Milei has been a staunch supporter of Eretz Yisroel and has deep connections to Chabad of Argentina.
Results have not yet been certified, but his rival, Peronist Economy Minister Sergio Massa, conceded in a speech, last night.
The President-elect has close connections to Argentina’s Senior Shliach Rabbi Tzvi Grunblatt. According to La Politica, Rabbi Grunblatt helped forge connections between Milei and important businessmen such as Eduardo Elsztain. Milei also studies regularly with another rabbi, Rabbi Shimon Axel Wahnish, who heads the ACILBA.
He has regularly spoken about the Rebbe on TV and in interviews. In one interview he explained how the Rebbe’s farbrengens on Shabbos were memorized by a team of chozrim, who would transcribe it after Shabbos. He recalled meeting one of the chozrim.
Milei has promised that one of his first government measures will be to move the Argentine embassy from Tel Aviv to Yerushalayim, as President Trump did back in 5778 (2017).
