Hundreds of Jewish community members – led by Rabbi Benjamin Wagner and his wife, Rebbetzin Dina – gathered in the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk, alongside distinguished guests from neighboring cities and Israel, to celebrate the inauguration of a new Torah scroll. The scroll, generously donated by Mr. Yochanan Yanukovych, a friend and supporter of the community, was gifted in honor of his 45th birthday.
The rare and emotional event began with the completion of the final letters of the Torah, allowing community members the opportunity to participate in the writing. Following, as customary, lively dancing ensued, as the new Torah scroll was joyfully paraded alongside the community’s other Torah scrolls.
The event was graced by the presence of Rabbi Aharon Wagner, Chief Rabbi of Irkutsk, and Rabbi Yerachmiel Gorelik, Chief Rabbi of Tyumen, along with Rabbi Shneor Vigler, a scribe who traveled especially from Israel to contribute to the occasion’s success.
After the dancing, the large crowd was invited to a festive meal in the newly renovated community hall. The renowned band “Acid Chasid” from St. Petersburg added to the celebratory atmosphere. The meal included blessings and words of wisdom from community friends, supporters, and Russia’s Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Berel Lazar, who urged the attendees to strengthen their connection and commitment to Jewish life.
