Chaos broke out in a famous yeshiva in Eretz Yisroel following an incident where a prominent bochur learning in the Yeshiva discovered that he was born to a non-Jewish mother.
This dramatic story, which caught many by surprise, was revealed when the bochur started with the shiduchim process, only to suddenly discover that he’s simply not Jewish.
The family moved several years ago from Ukraine, and in a recent phone call the mother revealed that even though his father was a Jew, she herself from Ukraine is not a Jew and did not go through the conversion process.
It completely shattered the bochur, as he realized that everything he’s been learning and toiling in over the past couple of years has been destroyed in one moment.
Immediately the Bochur approached one of the rabbis in the Yeshiva, revealing to him the secret that was just told by his mother.
It has been reported to “Kikar Hashabbat” that one of the rabbis immediately turned to the Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, in order to quickly find a Halachic solution and help this yeshiva student and to calm down the tremendous noise caused by the story in the Yeshiva.
After examining the story and diving deep into Halacha the Chief Rabbi of Israel decided that the young man must certainly undergo a proper conversion according to halacha. In order to assist him, the Rabbi appealed to senior figures in the conversion department, so that they would expedite the conversion process for this prominent yeshiva student as quick as possible.
“You have to treat this case according to the opinion of Bais Hillel, and you should love the convert” explain the Chief Rabbi in a conversation with professional rabbis in the conversion system. Explaining the importance to expedite the conversion process for this yeshivah student, who has no mother, but rather the four cubits of halacha and Torah.
Over the last couple of days the Bochur started the conversion process, according to Jewish law, after which he would return immediately to learning and shiduchim proposals.
