An energetic and action-packed five-day seminar took place in early November on the outskirts of Moscow, training coordinators from the EnerJew youth movement across the FSU. These dedicated young leaders, who work year-round in their cities and communities, represent the future generation of Jewish youth leadership.

Forty participants from across Russia and Belarus attended the first of two seminars, with the second scheduled for spring. Until then, they will participate in a series of online classes providing them with extensive, practical training for their crucial roles.

The seminar centered around five dynamic days of integrated learning, combining deep Jewish studies with professional tools for managing and leading groups, and marketing clubs, recruiting new members, expanding activities, raising program standards, and instilling motivation and empowerment. These skills are essential for the complex and vital mission of sustaining Jewish communities and nurturing the personal development of thousands of Jewish teens across the former Soviet Union.

Notable Jewish studies lecturers included Rabbi Azarya Shaulov, Rabbi Moshe Elkin, Rabbi David Shapiro, Rabbi Moshe Baruch Banish, and Rabbi Moshe Rochlin, who led the seminar alongside Rabbi Shlomo Ne’eman, director of FJC educational programs, and Rabbi Mendel Mondshine. In addition, EnerJew’s experienced professional team and regional directors, including Ruth Galeeva, Gershon Bezdenejnich, and Natella Epshteyn, imparted practical skills for running local branches and youth clubs.

At the seminar’s conclusion, participants joined a unique Q&A panel with Russia’s Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Berel Lazar, who expressed admiration for the coordinators’ insightful questions, enthusiasm, and knowledge.

Rabbi Lazar’s visit to the seminar campus was accompanied by Rabbi Avi Cassel, global director of the OLAMI organization, and Rabbi Dovid Mondshine, CEO of FJC, under whose auspices the EnerJew youth movement was founded and continues to thrive.
