Rosh Hashanah in Nicaragua: A Dreamlike Celebration

The programs included a special Shofar-blowing event at 6 a.m. for travelers who needed to fulfill the Mitzvah of hearing the Shofar.
On Friday evening, a challenge arose when the gathering was one person short of a minyan. A community member reached out to an individual waiting outside for the Shabbat meal, asking for assistance in completing the minyan. The individual expressed uncertainty about participating, stating he had never prayed before.
In response, the community member offered reassurance: “I will stand next to you and guide you.” The young man accepted the invitation, and when the Minyan was holding by Shmuna Esrei, a hush fell over the room. Suddenly, he began to recite the prayers loudly, his voice resonating throughout the hall. Attendees noted the moment’s power, drawing comparisons to the story of the rooster in the Baal Shem Tov’s Shul.
