For the first time in 143 years, a Kevuras Yisroel took place in Lucea, Jamaica.
Late Monday night, Rabbi Yaakov Raskin‘s phone rang at his house, next to him was Rabbi Eliyahu Ezagui who was visiting to oversee Kashrus operations ahead of Pesach. on the phone was the father of Arial Binyamin A”H, a local, who was crying and gave heart-breaking news that his son passed away in a terrible tragedy. They decided to arrange a proper Kevuras Yisroel.
Rabbi Ezagui delayed his return flight, and together with a group of 20 went to the Jewish Cemetery in Lucea, to clean and restore the cemetery.
Rabbi Raskin contacted the hospital and pulled ties in order for them to release the body without an autopsy, right away (which is usually not released until after a week).
After the body was released, the two Rabbis left the Beis Hachaim for Tahara. A group of five tourists who were visiting joined to complete the minyan, where Arial Binyamin ben יבלחט”א Moshe had the first Kevuras Yisroel in Lucea, Jamaica.
