Rabbi Dovid Nachshon, Menahel of the Mitzvah Tank Office in Eretz Yisroel, visited Cincinnati this week for a special Tu B’Av Farbrengen, marking the completion of an extraordinary 50-year circle dating back to his previous visit to the city.

During the Farbrengen, Rabbi Nachshon recounted the origins of the Mitzvah Tank campaign, which began in 5736 after the Rebbe instructed him to spread Yiddishkeit throughout Eretz Yisroel using Mitzvah Tanks.

To turn the Rebbe’s vision into reality, Rabbi Nachshon spent months traveling across the United States raising funds for the project.

His efforts eventually brought him to Cincinnati, where Rabbi Sholom Ber Kalmanson, Shliach to Cincinnati, worked tirelessly, reaching out to his contacts throughout the city to help make the project a reality.

Thanks to those efforts, funding was secured within a short time, and the first two Mitzvah Tanks were sent to Eretz Yisroel, launching what would grow into one of the Rebbe’s most recognizable and far-reaching initiatives.

Addressing those gathered at the Tu B’Av Farbrengen, Rabbi Nachshon shared the full history of the early Mitzvah Tank campaign and expressed heartfelt gratitude to Rabbi Kalmanson for his dedication and pivotal role in helping bring the Rebbe’s vision to life.

Fifty years after that historic visit, Rabbi Nachshon’s return to Cincinnati served as a moving reminder of how one community’s efforts helped lay the foundation for a worldwide Mivtzoim movement that continues to reach countless Jews every day.
