Rabbi in Normandy Attacked by Afghan Migrant with Chair

The attack was stopped by quick-thinking bystanders who subdued the attacker and handed him over to police. Authorities are currently investigating the incident, which has sparked renewed concerns about antisemitic violence and the safety of Jewish community leaders in France.
Rabbi Lemel, a respected figure in French Jewry, had already been attacked the previous Friday. In a statement released after that incident, he thanked the public for their support, saying: “Thank God, I am okay. I was hit and cursed in a language I didn’t understand.”
He urged the Jewish community to respond to these rising threats not with fear, but by strengthening themselves spiritually.
The repeated assaults have shaken local Jewish residents and reignited debate over immigration, integration, and the ongoing rise in antisemitic incidents across Europe.
