Hundreds of thousands of Jews across the former Soviet Union, in both major cities and remote towns, joyfully filled synagogues to hear the reading of Megillat Esther, crowded central halls for Purim parties, festive meals, and lively dancing, received and exchanged Mishloach Manot packages specially prepared by FJC, and fulfilled the unique mitzvot of the holiday in unity and joy • Read More, Photos

This year’s Purim will be remembered by the Jews of the former Soviet Union for many years to come. Despite taking place on a relatively rare Friday, Jewish communities, under the guidance of the Federation of Jewish Communities and the leadership of community rabbis and Chabad emissaries, made great efforts to organize a series of special events in each community, fully tailored to the age and style of the participants.

Colorful celebrations accompanied by uplifting and joyous music, costume contests, innovative attractions, unique performances, modern branding, and engaging themed decorations were all part of the festivities, which were held on an unprecedented scale this year.

At the heart of the events were numerous readings of Megillat Esther and festive Purim meals, where participants enjoyed hours of an especially uplifting and joyous atmosphere. During the events, each participant received a personal, beautifully designed, and delicious Mishloach Manot package, which they exchanged to fulfill the mitzvah of the holiday.

In preparation for the holiday, classes and lectures were held with thousands of participants who learned about the inner meaning of Purim and the special significance of its customs. Additionally, a wide range of educational materials was produced and distributed among community members, providing spiritual preparation for the joyous holiday.

From one holiday to the next: FSU Chabad emissaries and community rabbis successfully concluded the Purim festivities and have already begun extensive preparations for distributing matzah and organizing large communal Passover Seders next month, with the clear goal of ensuring that no Jew is left behind.
