My name is Raanan Isseroff- Director of Mas Hakohol.

We, from Vaad HaKohol organize that you pay the Rabbonim’s salaries.

Let me explain what your $180 Mas HaKohol payment is going for:

We – meaning: You, me and the Crown Heights Community, have a yearly obligation to pay our very chashuv Rabbonim shlit”a’s salaries. The Rebbe also paid every year.

It’s not charity-

It’s our privilege to have such amazing people working selflessly for us day and night answering our nit-picky questions that we harass them with, including those midnight panic calls about a niddah question (Not to mention non-stop shaylos on “drop-offs” wives make for emergency consultation).

We fund: Rav Osdoba Shlit”a, Rav Schwei Shlit”a and Rav Braun Shlit”a.

This is our obligation as a community.

To make this happen is not free.

There is this thing called an office, space for which is generously donated by the CHJCC, (a totally different organization), there’s a secretary, heat, A/C, paper, coffee cups, pencils, electric bill, gas bill, light bulbs, telephone bill and other sundry items including auxiliary staff, needed to make the Rabbinical Court of the Beis Din of Crown Heights happen. As you can see? It’s not a small operation.

We are not a shtetl where the Rav lives in a mud-hut and conducts Din-Torahs in the living room and collects his payment by going in a wagon to have each person give a sack of potatoes, flour, milk and eggs and his wife has sole rights to sell candles.

This is New York City and each Rav owns or rents a home and kin-ayin hora has a wife and children to feed and bills to pay. Let me tell you? It’s not cheap.

We know you give a tip here and there- B”H.

This is not a fulfillment of your Mas Hakohol obligation.

Please!! Keep giving the tips, but give $180 of that to the Vaad HaKohol efforts to fulfill your salary obligations to the Rabbonim.
