President-elect Donald Trump has chosen Senator Marco Rubio for the position of Secretary of State in his administration, sources told The New York Times.
Rubio, who was elected to the Senate in 2010 ran against Trump for the GOP presidential nomination in 2016, but withdrew from the race after losing to Trump in his home state of Florida. In 2024 elections, he strongly support Trump and was considered for the VP role, but ultimately lost to J.D. Vance.
The Senator considered a staunch supporter of Eretz Yisroel, he cosponsored the United States-Israel Security Assistance Authorization Act, a legislation that supported full funding of security assistance to Israel as outlined in the 2016 U.S.-Israel Memorandum of Understanding.
Senator Rubio opposes the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement and cosponsored the Israel Anti-Boycott Act and the Combating BDS Act of 2017, two bills that aim to fight discriminatory boycotts that target Israel. In 2019, he voted for the Strengthening America’s Middle East Security Act which, among other things, strengthened Israel’s security and allowed a state or local government to adopt measures to divest its assets from entities that boycott Israel.
In December, Rubio was confronted in Congress by an American “peace” activist, and told them that “I want them to destroy every element of Hamas they can get their hands on.”
It was reported in the Wall Street Journal that Trump will choose Rep. Michael Waltz, a retired U.S. military colonel for the position of National Security Advisor in the White House.
