The special three-day visit was highlighted by the presence of Rabbi Berel Lazar, who traveled to Panama as a guest of Kollel Torah Panama, headed by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schochet. Throughout the visit, Rabbi Lazar toured local schools, yeshivos, and community institutions, witnessing firsthand the flourishing growth of Torah life in Panama.

Students at the city’s educational institutions welcomed the distinguished guest with enthusiasm, while community members gathered for Shiurim, Farbrengens, and special events held throughout the weekend. Rabbi Lazar also addressed groups of women and met with local Rabbanim and community leaders.

One of the highlights of the visit was a special test for yeshiva Bochurim on Maseches Bava Kamma, where the Bochurim demonstrated impressive knowledge and dedication to their learning.

The centerpiece of the weekend took place on Motzaei Shabbos with a festive Siyum HaShas and Semicha ceremony.

The Siyum was completed by Hatomim Yosef Yitzchok Rabinowitz of Crown Heights, who began learning Shas while studying in Moscow and merited to complete it in Panama. Participants celebrated the achievement together with local Rabbanim, Shluchim, community leaders, and guests from across the country.

The gathering also marked a historic moment for Panama’s Jewish community, as both the outgoing Sephardic Chief Rabbi, Rabbi David Peretz, and incoming Sephardic Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Avraham Silveira, participated together in the celebration, symbolizing unity within the community.

Throughout the visit, Rabbi Lazar spoke about the remarkable revival of Jewish life in places that once suffered under Communist oppression, contrasting those difficult years with the vibrant Torah institutions flourishing today around the world.

The visit concluded with meetings with community leaders, Farbrengens with visiting yeshiva students, and participation in local Simchos, leaving a lasting impression on Panama’s growing Torah community and strengthening its commitment to continued growth in Torah and Yiddishkeit.
