NYC to Shut Down Roosevelt Hotel Migrant Shelter
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has announced that the Roosevelt Hotel migrant shelter, one of the city’s largest emergency facilities for asylum seekers, will shut down in the coming months • Read More
The Midtown Manhattan hotel-turned-shelter, which has served as a major intake and processing center since May 2023, has accommodated more than 173,000 migrants over the past year. However, with the number of new arrivals declining, city officials are preparing to phase out the facility.
At its peak, NYC’s shelter system housed approximately 69,000 migrants, but that number has now fallen to under 45,000. The number of weekly arrivals has also plummeted—from around 4,000 to an average of 350, according to city data.
The Adams administration has been working to reduce the strain on the city’s shelter system by limiting stays for single adults, busing migrants to other locations, and working with the Trump administration for support.
