New York’s Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul has won re-election, NBC News projects, defeating Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin.

Hochul, 64, has served as governor of New York since Aug. 2021, following the resignation of Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Hochul had previously served as his lieutenant governor and also served in Congress between 2011 and 2013.

She faced Zeldin, 42, in the gubernatorial race, which had tightened significantly in recent weeks.

Zeldin has served in the House since 2015, representing New York’s 1st Congressional District which covers the eastern half of Long Island. Former President Donald Trump endorsed Zeldin in mid-October.
