A new trust has been formed to benefit the children of Rabbi Joseph Raksin, who was murdered while walking to his synagogue in Miami on the Sabbath. Rabbi Raksin, a father of six from Brooklyn, NY, was visiting family in Miami when the shooting occurred. His daughters live in North Miami Beach and Palm Beach Gardens.
In the aftermath of his death, the Miami and Brooklyn-based Jewish communities held vigils and protests. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) was also called to investigate. Despite the efforts of the community, police and ADL, a suspect has still not been identified.
The law firm of Holland & Knight has worked closely with the family to seek victim relief benefits and to create a trust, which will accept donations from the community. Lawyers from the firm’s Miami and West Palm Beach offices provided these services on a pro bono basis.
Rabbi Raksin’s son-in-law, Rabbi Leib Ezagui, thanked the community for its ongoing support and expressed his hope for justice. Members of the community who wish to donate to the Rabbi Joseph Raksin Trust should send checks to:
