The bochurim of New Haven Yeshiva brought down the sofer Rabbi Rachamim Ladaev and his staff to check the bochurim’s Tefillin, and to give over a class of various tips of how to maintain your Tefillin best.
A few of the tips of how to maintain your Tefillin:
- Make sure on the arm Tefillin, the yud is sticking out at least 10mm.
- Make sure to paint your straps every so often so it stays black especially near the knot areas (head and arm).
- Make sure the width of your straps is at least 10mm wide (there is no need to pull your Tefillin to tight.
- Make sure to dry your head after mikva so your Tefillin don’t bend out of shape.
- Be careful when you put your Tefillin in to its box so it doesn’t damage the corners
- Try to keep you Tefillin out of areas that are to cool or too hot for long periods of time.
