“I’ve visited Israel eight or nine times. I’ve been to the Western Wall, observed the IDF in action, and gained a deep understanding of the complexities you face. What has always struck me is the profound sense of purpose—the reality of living under an existential threat,” Hegseth told Netanyahu.
He went on to commend Israel’s decisive actions against Hamas and Hezbollah leadership. “You’ve already demonstrated your capabilities in eliminating top Hamas and Hezbollah operatives—something of great importance to the United States. You took down those responsible for killing U.S. Marines. You have a long memory, and so do we. We will ensure that the ammunition previously withheld is delivered,” he assured.
Netanyahu underscored the importance of Israel’s security partnership with the U.S., stating, “The team appointed by President Trump consists of true American patriots and staunch friends of Israel. Our guiding principle remains: we fight our enemies ourselves. They call you the Great Satan and us the Little Satan.”
When asked about the possibility of deploying American forces in Gaza, Hegseth dismissed the idea outright. “It doesn’t make sense to repeat past mistakes,” he said. “We need to think outside the box. The president will make the final decision, and we will not get ahead of him on this matter.”
