The Metropolitan Transportation Authority will add four more New York City bus routes to its Automated Camera Enforcement (ACE) program, aimed at improving bus speeds and reliability by enforcing existing traffic rules.
Beginning Monday, August 17, a 60-day warning period will begin on the Bx21, B8, B9 and Q101 routes serving the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens. The routes will bring the number of MTA bus routes activated for ACE in 2026 to 18.
With the expansion, ACE will cover 71 routes citywide, with more than 2,000 buses—about one-third of the MTA’s bus fleet—equipped with enforcement cameras. The program serves more than one million riders on an average weekday.
The cameras are used to document vehicles violating traffic rules that interfere with bus service, with footage and license-plate information reviewed by New York City transportation officials.
The MTA says ACE, combined with dedicated bus lanes and other street improvements, has helped increase bus speeds along participating routes, with some segments seeing gains of nearly 30% since the program launched in 2024.
