Minister Amichai Shikli Visits Cyprus Jewish Community Amid Rapid Growth
Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Shikli visited the Jewish community in Cyprus this week, following the rapid expansion of the community, which now numbers over 4,000 families. The visit began with a tour of the King David Jewish School in Larnaca, which has recently relocated to a new facility. The school, known for its high-quality education, is growing rapidly and continues to attract students from the expanding community.
During the tour, Minister Shikli showed his knowledge of Chabad teachings, mentioning several Chabad Rebbes by name and sharing his passion for learning Chassidus. His connection to Chabad Niggunim also caught the attention of the staff and students in the Jewish Studies classroom.
The minister’s itinerary also included stops at the “Circle of Friendship” Center and the “European Chesed Center,” where he expressed deep admiration for the work being done to support the local Jewish community and beyond.
In a visit to the “Aliyah Hut,” a historic site in the community courtyard, Shikli was briefed on efforts to establish a Jewish Museum and Center for Tolerance, which will focus on the Holocaust, Jewish immigration, and the preservation of Jewish heritage.
The minister was hosted by Rabbi Levi Yudkin, the CEO of the Jewish community, and Rabbi Shneur Zalman Levittin, the Rabbi of Larnaca. During a meal at the Chabad center, Shikli remarked on the significant impact of Chabad Shluchim, emphasizing that they are deeply connected to the grassroots of the community and are central to its success.
