For the first time, the city of Wilkes-Barre has officially recognized the birthday of The Lubavitcher Rebbe, issuing a proclamation declaring it “Education and Sharing Day USA.” The proclamation was signed by Mayor George C. Brown ahead of the Rebbe’s birthday on the 11th of Nissan, which this year marks 123 years since his birth.

The initiative was led by Rabbi Zali Shifren of Kingston, PA, who organized the effort locally. The signing ceremony was attended by Rabbi Tzvi Perlman, Head Shliach of Pennsylvania, and Rabbi Pinny Levitin.

The annual observance of Education and Sharing Day began in 1978, when President Jimmy Carter first proclaimed the day in honor of The Rebbe’s 76th birthday. Each U.S. president since has continued the tradition, recognizing the Rebbe’s contributions to education, ethics, and civic leadership. States, counties, and municipalities across the country have also followed suit with local proclamations.

In signing the proclamation, Wilkes-Barre joins dozens of cities across the United States acknowledging the Rebbe’s influence on moral education and the importance of instilling values of kindness and responsibility in future generations.

Rabbi Shifren notes that these proclamations play a significant role in the final redemption, as nations recognize the universal values of the Seven Noahide Laws. By embracing these principles, humanity takes a step towards unity and harmony. The Rebbe’s vision for a world where all people live in accordance with these laws is becoming a reality, one proclamation at a time.

The Lubavitcher Rebbe’s impact on American society is undeniable. His commitment to education and moral values inspires countless individuals, and continues to shape communities across the country.

Rabbi Shifren adds, that this proclamation is something within everyone’s reach to accomplish, if you go out there with the Rebbe’s koach! Reach out today to your local mayor or politician of such stature to call on all citizens to make this Yud alef Nisan a national holiday.
May we all merit to the final Geulah with the rebbe at our lead!
