Hundreds of people joined Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and a who’s who of Massachusetts politicians in lighting the “MASSACHUSETTS MENORAH”, a giant Menorah located at the Rotunda of the State House.
“It was a joyous festive Chanukah celebration, taking place at the Nation’s oldest State Capitol completed in 1798,” said Rabbi Rachmiel Liberman Of Congregation Lubavitch in Brookline, founder and organizer of the event.
Liberman, Governor Patrick and House Speaker Robert A. DeLeo, had to be hoisted by a scissor lift to reach the 18-foot Menorah.
Other participants and speakers at this event included: Senate President Therese Murray, Secretary of State William Galvin, Treasurer Steve Grossman, Attorney General Martha Coakley, and State Auditor Suzanne Bump.
Musical entertainment was provided by the United States Navy Band.
