Rabbi Shaul Ofen, a Lubavitcher Chossid from Lod, was appointed as the head of the Kashrus in the IDF and promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel. As part of his position, Rabbi Ofen will oversee the Kashrus of the entire IDF.

The promotion ceremony was attended by Major general Motti Almoz and the head of the Rabbinate department, Rabbi Sharon Tzabri.

This important job contains a lot of responsibilities, especially with Shmitah right around the corner.

In addition, Rabbi Ofen will have to ensure that ‘Mehadrin’ food is available for the Yeshiva Bochurim and Chareidi units in the army who only eat the highest standards of Kashrus.

Despite the improvements by the army in recent years in regards to Kashrus, havi9ng a Lubavitcher Chossid in such a position is a huge step by the state of Israel to ensure the quality of Kashrus for it’s soldiers.
