In a transformative initiative, over 274,000 Ukrainians have received eyeglasses over the past two years, thanks to a collaborative effort between JRNU – the Federation of Jewish Communities and Chabad’s humanitarian arm in Ukraine – 27 partner organizations, and Restoring Vision • Full Story
This life-changing program has reached individuals across Ukraine, including those in cities near the front lines, enabling them to regain clear vision and navigate their daily lives.
The initiative has helped people from all walks of life—young adults, parents, the elderly, the disabled, and the infirm. In a country where economic hardship forces many to choose between essentials like food and heat, eyeglasses, often considered a luxury, are being restored as a necessity. “Glasses are not an accessory; they are essential for people to interact with loved ones and engage in meaningful activities,” emphasized JRNU representatives.
Through partnerships with trusted aid organizations, from the Red Cross to grassroots charities, eyeglasses have been distributed nationwide—from Lviv in the West to Kharkiv in the East. This effort has brought critical relief to those who lost or broke their glasses during the turmoil of displacement and conflict.
RestoringVision, an organization that has provided glasses to over 28 million people in 147 countries, was pivotal in supplying the eyewear. These high-quality glasses, sourced from leading optical manufacturers, have given thousands of Ukrainians the ability to see more clearly and restore hope amid challenging times.
“Together, we’ve made the world a little brighter for more than 270,000 people,” JRNU shared, expressing gratitude to all partners involved. This initiative highlights the power of collaboration to deliver essential aid and transform lives.
