The Knesset approved, today (Wednesday), by unanimous vote with no opposition or abstentions, the first reading of a bill to establish a center dedicated to preserving the legacy of The Lubavitcher Rebbe Melech Hamoshiach and the Chabad Chassidic dynasty. In his speech, MK Eliyahu highlighted The Rebbe’s extraordinary impact, noting, “The Rebbe established a global network of over 5,000 centers across more than 100 countries, a network that today serves as the backbone of Jewish community life worldwide.”
The proposed heritage center will be a vibrant and inclusive space, according to Eliyahu, “serving as a bridge between all parts of the nation, focusing on unity rather than division, connection rather than conflict.” The center is intended to be a hub for dialogue, learning, research, and educational activities based on the teachings of The Rebbe, Melech Moshiach.
Eliyahu called on members of the Knesset, both from the coalition and the opposition, to support the bill, emphasizing it as “an opportunity to honor one of the most influential figures in modern Jewish history.”
The MK also spoke of the far-reaching work of Chabad emissaries around the world, who serve as a lifeline for many Israelis traveling abroad after their military service. He remarked, “The Rebbe’s emissaries do not ask if you are religious, or which political side you identify with. They are there for you. Period.”
MK Itamar Ben-Gvir, Chairman of Otzma Yehudit, also expressed support, stating, “The law to preserve the Rebbe’s legacy is an important step in recognizing his immense contribution to the Jewish people. The Rebbe is a leader on a global scale, tirelessly working to bring every Jew closer to their heritage with true love for all.”
With the bill’s approval in the first reading, it will now be sent to the Knesset Education Committee for further preparation before the second reading.
