As of yesterday, over 200 cases of COVID-19 have been verified in the Chassidic enclave of Kfar Chabad in Eretz Yisroel, placing it in the country’s “red” category.

According to the Hebrew language website Kikar Hashabbat over 70% of the cases are children and at this time none of the current cases in the village are of a serious nature.

In the report, the site speculates that the outbreak commenced with the return of children from various summer camps around the country. Those children who contracted COVID quarantined and in turn infected their households.

Due to the outbreak, many schools in Kfar Chabad announced that they would commence the school year later than the usual Rosh Chodesh Elul start date. Pre-school, kindergarten, and grades 1-4 started today as planned, but grades 5 to 8 kicked off their school year remotely.

The Kikar Hashabbat report also mentioned an outbreak in the neighborhood of Nachlas Har Chabad in the city of Kiryat Malachi is simultaneously experiencing a similar outbreak, likely due to the return of campers as well.
