David Strober, a Jewish soldier who had studied at the Chabad ‘Or Avner’ school in Vinnytsia, had been missing since participating in a fierce battle in Donetsk on the eve of Passover last year. After extensive efforts by the Federation of Jewish Communities in Ukraine, his body was finally located, and he was laid to rest in the Jewish cemetery in his hometown last Friday.
Rabbi Shaul Horowitz, the city’s Shliach, shared: “Strober studied at the ‘Or Avner’ school we established in Vinnytsia. He was a proud Jew who never hid his Jewish identity, even during his military service. The upcoming extensive Chanukkah campaign, starting on Wednesday evening, the first night of Chanukkah, will be dedicated to his memory.”
Rabbi Meir Stambler, chairman of the Jewish communities in Ukraine, remarked: “The answer to war is to increase in light. We have completed the distribution of Chanukkah Menorah kits to over 50,000 Jewish families. Together with dozens of the Rebbe’s Shluchim in the country, we will bring the light of Hanukkah to every Jew and every resident in Ukraine.”
