Jewish Leaders Meet with Moldovan Officials, Expressing Gratitude and Strengthening Community Ties

Rabbi Stambler traveled to Moldova, which borders Ukraine to the south, to serve as the keynote speaker at the central Farbrengen marking Yud Shevat, commemorates the anniversary of The Rebbe assuming leadership of Chabad-Lubavitch.
During their meeting at City Hall, Rabbi Stambler presented Mayor Ceban with a book detailing the life and legacy of Rabbi Zalman Abelsky, the first Chief Rabbi of Moldova following the fall of communism. Rabbi Abelsky, who arrived in Moldova more than 35 years ago as the Rebbe’s Shliach, was a well-known figure in the country, revered not only by the Jewish community but also by the general public. The mayor shared that he, like many Moldovans, was familiar with Rabbi Abelsky’s reputation and the widespread belief in the power of his blessings.
Rabbi Stambler noted that Moldova’s current Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Axelrod, is Rabbi Abelsky’s grandson, continuing his legacy of Jewish leadership in the country.
The meeting was facilitated by Rabbi Levi Matusof, the Brussels-based representative of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine (FJCU). At the conclusion of the discussion, Mayor Ceban pledged to visit Chișinău’s central synagogue, located on Chabad-Lubavitch Street, to gain a firsthand impression of the Jewish community’s activities under Rabbi Axelrod’s leadership.
