Jewish Firefighter Rescues Sefer Torah from Chabad House Blaze in Greenville, NY

While battling the flames, firefighter Michael Farkas recognized that part of the basement housed a Shul. Realizing the potential danger to sacred items, he rushed into the building and retrieved a Torah from the Aron Kodesh.
“As soon as I saw the ark, my eyes went straight to it,” said Farkas. “I opened it to check, and sure enough, there was a Torah inside.”
In a powerful and emotional moment, Farkas emerged from the burning building holding the Torah.
Thankfully, the building was empty when the fire began. Investigators believe the cause was an electrical short circuit, with no signs of foul play.
