The Jerusalem Municipality’s legal adviser has ordered the missionary organization “Acharit Hayamim” (End of Days) to stop using the city’s official logo on its publications.
The order came in response to a complaint filed by Yad L’Achim warning that the use of the logo could create the impression that the missionary organization’s activities are authorized by the municipality.
“It has recently come to our attention that you are using the Jerusalem Municipality’s symbol on one of your publications,” the city’s deputy legal adviser, Danny Libman, wrote the missionary group in a scathing letter. “Using the official symbol of the Jerusalem Municipality in this way is a violation of the Symbols Protection Law, and is strictly prohibited.
“In addition, use of the city’s official symbol is extremely misleading, and gives some the impression that the publisher of the material has some connection to the Jerusalem Municipality.
“In light of the above, you are hereby required to completely desist from using the municipality’s symbol in any of your publications in any means of distribution, including electronic media and your website. You are hereby required to delete the municipality’s symbol from any sign, advertisement, brochure, leaflet and any electronic advertising on your behalf.”
The serious violation was brought to the attention of the municipality by Yad L’Achim. Rabbi Shmuel Lipschitz, one of the organization’s leaders, sent a letter stating: “This material is a preaching tool for the missionaries that is distributed in many languages, and, to our great sorrow, is entrapping many innocent Jews.
“Compounding the problem is the fact that the missionaries had the gall to put the Jerusalem Municipality’s official symbol on their publications, in an attempt to give a ‘hechsher’ to their criminal activity. We appeal to you to help remove this deceptive ploy from the missionaries’ publications.”
Yad L’Achim intends to follow up on the story and ensure that distribution of the problematic leaflets is completely stopped.
