In honor of the Rebbe’s birthday, Avi Dichter, Israel’s Agriculture and Food Security Minister, paid a special visit to the Chabad House in Delhi during a visit to the capital of India.
Upon arrival, the minister was warmly welcomed by the Rebbe’s shluchim, Rabbi Shneur Kupchik and his wife Sarah – who shared with him the wide-ranging activities of Chabad Houses throughout the Indian subcontinent, which serve thousands of Israeli backpackers, business professionals, and diplomats year-round.
During the visit, Minister Dichter spoke about his deep connection with Chabad over the years, with special mention of his close friendship with Rabbi Shemaryahu Harel. He was joined by Israel’s Ambassador to India, Mr. Reuven Azar, as they toured the community’s hand-made matzah bakery, established by the shluchim for the children of the local Jewish community.
From there, they continued to the on-site synagogue, where they recited the Rebbe’s new kapitel verse-by-verse together with the shliach, Rabbi Mendy Nemirovsky. They joyfully sang the pesukim with the shluchim’s children and gave tzedakah.
The uplifting visit concluded with watching a video footage of the Rebbe. The group then remained for a heartfelt farbrengen, discussing the shlichus work and its tremendous impact.
Before parting, Minister Dichter received a beautifully wrapped set of handmade Shmurah Matzah for Pesach.
