In Honor of Gimmel Tammuz: Ukraine’s Postal Service Launched A 770 Stamp
Thirty years after Gimmel Tammuz, Ukraine’s postal service has launched a special stamp in honor of the Rebbe, who was born in Ukraine, and as a tribute to the Chabad movement and its activities in Ukraine • Full Story, Photos
The planning for the stamp’s launch began before the coronavirus pandemic but was postponed due to the outbreak, followed immediately by the war in Ukraine. Over the past two years, most new stamps in Ukraine have focused on war and military themes. The stamp honoring the Rebbe stands out prominently amidst the new stamps in a country deeply immersed in a prolonged conflict.
In consultation with Chabad rabbis, the stamp features the 770 building in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York, with images of the Rabbeims Seforim replacing the building’s windows.
Rabbi of Kiev and Chabad Shliach in the city Rabbi Yonatan Markovitch initiated the stamp’s release and worked towards its production, expressing gratitude to the Ukrainian postal officials and stating, “I hear from many non-Jewish Ukrainian citizens that they have great appreciation for the Rebbe, seeing him as a figure of Jewish-Ukrainian unity who has achieved international influence. There is no more appropriate and fitting day than Gimmel Tammuz to honor the Rebbe, express appreciation for the activities of Chabad emissaries worldwide, and particularly for the activities of Chabad emissaries in Ukraine.”
