The names of the fallen heroes, may G-d avenge their blood:

Staff Sgt. Niv Redia, 20, from Elyakhin, soldier in the 605 Combat Engineering Battalion, “Barak” Brigade (188).

Sgt. Ronen Shapiro, 19, from Mazkeret Batya, soldier in the 605 Combat Engineering Battalion, “Barak” Brigade (188).

Sgt. Shachar Manoav, 21, from Ashkelon, soldier in the 605 Combat Engineering Battalion, “Barak” Brigade (188).

Sgt. Maayan Baruch Perlstein, 20, from Ashchar, soldier in the 605 Combat Engineering Battalion, “Barak” Brigade (188).

Staff Sgt. Alon Davidov, 21, from Kiryat Yam, combat medic in the 605 Combat Engineering Battalion, “Barak” Brigade (188).

In a separate incident, another soldier from the same battalion was seriously wounded yesterday (Tuesday) during combat in southern Gaza. He was evacuated to the hospital for medical treatment, and his family was notified.

The devastating incident occurred yesterday around 5:20 PM. According to an initial investigation, terrorists attached an explosive device to the soldiers’ armored personnel carrier (APC) and then fled the scene. The IDF worked for hours to identify the fallen, who were in a large, older APC used for engineering missions known as a “Puma,” which caught fire and was completely burned.

The investigation revealed that the explosion severely damaged the armored vehicle. Fellow soldiers spent many long minutes attempting to extinguish the burning APC—using firefighting units and even a nearby D9 bulldozer that, according to protocol, covered the burning APC with sand. Evacuation helicopters were dispatched to the scene but returned empty.

The “Puma” was later towed into Israeli territory. The IDF is still searching for the terrorists responsible. It is still unclear whether the tragedy was caused by an explosive device or by an RPG (anti-tank rocket) fired at close range at the APC.

This “Puma” APC tragedy is the deadliest incident in Gaza in over a year. On June 15, 2024, eight soldiers were killed in Rafah by an anti-tank missile strike on a Namer engineering APC.

Since the beginning of the war, the names of 878 fallen IDF soldiers have been released—434 of them in battles in the Gaza Strip, and 50 in combat in southern Lebanon.
