Hurricane Aftermath: Heavy Damage to Chabad House in Jamaica

As the storm raged through the city, the Shluchim, Rabbi Yaakov and Chaya Raskin, and their children found themselves in grave danger. With winds tearing through the area and glass shattering around them, the family took shelter for several hours in the only room without windows.

In a series of open miracles, and with Chabad Chassidim across the world saying Tehillim for their safety, the family emerged unharmed. During the height of the storm, they lost electricity and cell phone service. To make matters worse, the backup generator that was supposed to activate failed to turn on, leaving them completely cut off from the outside world for hours.

Now that the hurricane has passed, the Raskin family has turned their focus outward — helping local residents and community members recover. Despite the extensive damage to the Chabad House, they continue distributing food, water, and other essentials to those in need, embodying true Mesiras Nefesh in their Shlichus.
