Omar Shem Tov, who was released from Gaza about a month ago, and his family, met with the Chief Rabbi of Russia, rabbi Berel Lazar. During the meeting, Omar presented the Rabbi with a “D’var Malchus” booklet that the terrorists who had kidnapped him found in a stash of books left behind by Israeli soldiers. They brought the books to him in the Gaza tunnels, from which he learned the weekly Torah portion and the Rebbe’s Sichos. This learning became a source of comfort and strength for him during his most difficult days • Read More

By Divine providence, the booklet he received was for the Torah portion of Va’eira, and it contained the Ma’amar “Basi LeGani” as well as a discourse on the weekly portion. Both talks focused on the story of Joseph the Tzaddik, who rose from the pit to greatness, a theme that gave him encouragement during his challenging situation.

At the end of the meeting, the Chief Rabbi gave the family a photo of the Rebbe holding the “D’var Malchus” booklet. The family expressed their deep gratitude, and they requested to take a photo together as a keepsake from this special encounter.
