Terrorists burned down the Chabad Shul in Russia’s southern republic of Dagestan. Authorities said that terrorists opened fire on a Shul, a police post, and lehavdil, two Orthodox churches, in Derbent and Makhachkala, two cities in the region.
A group of Islamic terrorists shot at a Shul and lehavdil, a church in the city of Derbent, located on the Caspian Sea. Both caught fire, according to state media.
Almost simultaneously, reports appeared about an attack on a church and a traffic police post in Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan.
The Derbent Synagogue, also known as Kele-Numaz is the only synagogue in the city of Derbent in the Russian Republic of Dagestan. It opened in 1914 and was restored to its original glory in 2009 by the Chabad Shluchim, under the supervision of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia (FJCR).
The Chabad Shluchim, Rabbi Ovadya and Chaya Miryam Isakov, Baruch Hashem, are safe and were not in the city when terrorists attacked. The Shul was empty when it was attacked.
According to the Israeli Foreign Ministry, all community members appear to be accounted for.
Tragically, the historic Shul burned down r”l, and two security guards and a police officer were murdered by the terrorists when they were trying to protect the Shul.
