Following an urgent security consultation, the Prime Minister’s Office announced that Prime Minister Netanyahu instructed the military to carry out immediate, forceful strikes in the Gaza Strip.

In response, Hamas declared that due to what it described as “violations” by Israel, it was canceling its planned return of the remains of another captive soldier identified earlier in the day.

Earlier on Tuesday, it was revealed that the coffin handed over by Hamas the previous night contained additional remains of the captive soldier Ofir Tzarfati HY”D, whose body had been recovered in a military operation nearly two years ago.

During the security consultations, a range of response options were presented, including expanding operations in Gaza and extending Israel’s “yellow line” buffer zones. The meeting included Defense Minister Yoav Kitz, IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, Reserve General Nitzan Alon (who oversees intelligence efforts regarding captives and missing persons), and Shin Bet chief Zini.

Earlier, the IDF released footage showing Hamas operatives burying remains of Ofir Tzarfati HY”D and later exhuming them before returning them to Israel via the Red Cross.

Under the ceasefire agreement, Hamas was obligated to return all captives within 72 hours. While all 20 living captives were released, not all remains have been returned. So far, 15 of the 28 deceased soldiers held in Gaza prior to the deal have been returned; 13 remain.
