Google has apologized and changed the results of the search term “Jew” on its website after widespread outcry.
In a tweet, a representative for the search said it outsources its definitions to a third party and the result is a mistake.
Our apologies. Google licenses definitions from third-party dictionary experts. We only display offensive definitions by default if they are the main meaning of a term. As this is not the case here, we have blocked this & passed along feedback to the partner for further review.

ORIGINAL STORY CONTINUES BELOW
Antisemitism appears to have become so accepted that even search engines are participating in this notorious behavior. Google, a leading media company, has recently demonstrated antisemitism in a casual and nonchalant manner. When searching for the word “Jew,” the first result is an antisemitic trope suggesting that Jews are cheap.
At the top of the search results, the “dictionary definition” of Jew is provided, defining it as a verb meaning “to bargain with someone in a miserly or petty way.” This definition is accompanied by a warning that it is “offensive,” but this provides little consolation. It is akin to someone saying “no offense” before proceeding to insult or attack someone.
What is particularly disturbing is that this is the only definition offered. There is no mention of the rich heritage and history of Jews, or of the many contributions that they have made to society. The disturbing trend of antisemitism becoming mainstream is truly horrific and shows no signs of dissipating.
.@Google has some serious explaining to do about how it ended up presenting an antisemitic “definition” of a Jew!
There’s NO good excuse for such an org to casually feature Jew-hatred in its search results!
We demand accountability!
